BURRITTS RAPIDS LOCKSTATION The Burritts Rapids lockstation is situated at the downstream end of a one and a quarter mile artificial channel. The Village of Burritts Rapids, one of the earliest settlements in the Rideau Corridor, is located on the Island between the river and artificial cut. It was founded in 1793 by Colonel Stephen Burritt, a Loyalist from Connecticut. He set up his home on the south bank and shortly thereafter built a sawmill. Lockstation services: parking, charts and permit sales, on-site identification, picnic areas, day use docking, boater camping and overnight mooring. Swimming, fishing and boat watching are here.
