It takes roughly a week to travel the full length of the Waterway by boat. Passing through 36 conventional locks, two sets of flight locks, two of the world's highest hydraulic lift locks and a marine railway are all part of the adventure. Boaters are also free to embark from any point, taking shorter overnight or daylong trips on the Trent River, Kawartha Lakes, Lake Simcoe or Severn River. The needs of boaters along the Trent-Severn are well met. Full service marinas provide fuel, supplies, showers, repairs, sewage pump-out, boat rentals and overnight mooring.
A host of resorts, restaurants and shops make excelling stopping points.
All Waterway lock stations offer drinking water and space for overnight tie-up; most offer space for boaters to camp.
