This Ontario style cottage, built in the 1840's and home to the Economic Development and Tourism information centre was the birthplace of Hollywood legend Marie Dressler. Born in 1868 as Leila Marie von Koerber, she changed her name at age 14 to spare her family the embarrassment of her future in the film industry. Marie went on to become one of the leading actresses in silent and talking movies, giving Charlie Chaplin his start. By the 1920's, she was a Hollywood legend and won an Oscar for her leading role in the 1931 film "Min and Bill", co-starring Wallace Beery. A wax tableau from this movie is located in Dressler House as well as a remarkable display of memorabilia from the Actress' past.
