Natives once sheltered under rock overhangs on the shores of this coldwater lake north of the St. Lawrence River. Then wealthy Victorian cottagers summered here. The rugged look of the north blended with the south still draws hikers and canoeists to these scenic shores and winding trails. Three campgrounds have 238 campsites, 86 of which have electrical service. Camp in the treed Meadowlands, or forested Bayside and Shady Ridge campgrounds. Ten interior campsites along the shores of Charleston Lake are accessible only by water and trail. Arranged in five clusters, most feature a tent platform best suited for free-standing dome tents. Pit toilets are accessible to each site and you can arrange firewood delivery, refuse pickup and equipment delivery and pickup (for a small fee).
