A magnificent example of 1800's architecture is Victoria Hall, which stands at the town centre beneath an imposing clock tower. Its soaring Corinthian columns have dominated King Street for one hundred and forty years. Now a national monument, there are daily tours during July and August and special arrangements can be made at other times. The 41 rooms of Victoria Hall serve a variety of uses. A highlight of the public areas is the "Old Bailey Courtroom", one of Canada's last remaining "deep-well" courtrooms and still a functioning provincial court. Another highlight is the office of "James Cockburn", one of Canada's Fathers of Confederation who practiced law in Cobourg.
