A National Historic Site. Three martello towers were constructed in 1845-48 in response to a border crisis in Canadian-American relations in Western Canada. They were part of a ring of defences for the city of Kingston, Ontario and its harbour. This demonstrates the importance of the city to Upper Canada in the mid-19th century.
