CHAFFEYS LOCKSTATION A settlement was established at Chaffeys well before the Canal was built. Late in the 19th century Samuel Chaffey settled at the location that today bears his name. By the time plans were being made for the Rideau Canal, Chaffey had established an impressive mill complex which included a mill dam, distillery, carding mill, sawmill and a grist mill. Visit the defensible lockmaster's house (built in 1844) is now the Chaffeys Lockmaster's House Museum, with many interesting displays. Lockstation services: barbecues, parking, charts and permit sales, on-site identification, picnic areas, day use docking, boater camping and overnight mooring. Swimming, fishing and boat watching are activities that can be enjoyed here.
