The Niagara Escarpment that runs north through the region is a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, recognized for its unique landscape. There are opportunities for cycling, hiking, canoeing, birding, swimming, fishing, downhill skiing, rock climbing and golf. In particular, the Halton Region is home to Glen Abbey, one of Canada's greatest golf courses, and the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame.
